The Brother HL-L8350CDW ($399.99) colour laser printer’s specifications are almost identical to the Brother HL-L8250CDN ($322.31 at Amazon), with the exception of a slightly higher speed rating (despite performing similarly in our tests) and the addition of Wi-Fi. It’s the same size and weight as the original, and it uses the same toner cartridges and paper handling.
The website neglects to note that the HL-L8350CDW ($679.00 at Amazon) generated substantially better-looking graphics and photos , easily justifying the extra cost even if you don’t need Wi-Fi.
This colour laser is comparable to the Editors’ Choice Xerox Phaser 6500/DN ($385.07 at Amazon), with similar speed and better paper handling in our tests. Editors’ Choice goes to the Xerox printer because of its superior performance quality.
However, the cost benefit isn’t nearly as significant as it is with the Brother HL-L8250CDN, making the HL-L8350CDW more appealing to businesses.
I purchased this printer on September 22, 2015 and finally was able to set it up on September 30, 2015. After following all the steps, I printed my first item. I use a laser printer to print color brochures and 3″x4″ color product labels. When the first brochure printed I noticed that the grain of the picture was very grainy and the blacks and gray colors were over colorized (I use pictures of wine and carboy bottles in my pictures).
Instead of the image of a clear wine and carboy bottle, they appeared darker and grainy. I was not happy. I previously used an HP color laser jet pro 200 M251nw, which did ok with the colors, but with darker colors like an dark amber beer bottle, the color smeared on the Avery labels. Also, after 2-years of use, the HP printer couldn’t print label stock without having a misprint after 2-3 pages being printed. Personally, I wouldn’t purchase either printer. I hope this helps.
This is my first color laser printer. I don’t have much experience or comparison data.
There’s no issue with inks drying out or heads getting clogged due to infrequent use (vs inkjet printers). I like that.
It’s not a photo-quality printer. There’s an option to print on glossy paper, but no presets for photo paper, 4″ x 6″, 5″ x 7″ or any of that. I agree with reviewers who say it prints beautiful “magazine quality” photos on good quality plain paper.
